Pastor’s Column
Last Sunday was a glorious day! I want to thank Sue Anderson, her family and all who assisted them in having a tasty lunch available for us after the service. Thank you, Doug Owens, for leading the music and getting together the quartet for the special music. Thank you, Karen Keip and Tracy, and all who helped with the VBS presentation in the service. Thank you, Sue Crego, for all the work you did in putting our printed materials together. Thank you, Scott Anderson, for your creativity in designing the order of service. Wasn’t it remarkable that Pete DeWilde, son of two of the charter members, was here to open the box behind the cornerstone? Thank you, Pete. And a big thank you to everyone who helped to move items to our temporary location on a hot and humid afternoon!
Friday evening, a severe storm struck our city. Many of our members now are without power. Kathy and I happened to be driving down Lane Avenue during the storm and trees were down everywhere, even blocking two lanes on Lane Avenue. Saturday,
I stopped by the church to see what damage there might be and found to my delight that we had electricity! And Joe Hatfield and Arch DeBoard showed up to remove a tree that blocked one of the entrances to the church! God was good to us! We were able to have our worship service, while a good number of other churches had to cancel services.
It will be strange not to return to 1610 W. Lane Avenue for worship next Sunday. I know this is bittersweet for many. Cindy Peck’s testimony Sunday helped many of us put it all in perspective: sadness at leaving a location where there are so many precious memories, yet joy at what God has in store for us. Her words helped me remember that the church is at its core a body of people. We are the family of God. And all the factors that led those visionary founders to build a church in this location will remain our guiding values as we build elsewhere for the next generation!
Last week we had a wonderful VBS. My thanks to Tracy, Jan and Karen, together with all the teachers and workers, who made it so delightful. I hope we do another in that venue.
Next Sunday we will begin with our worship at 8:30 a.m., Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., and our second service at 10:45 a.m. We will be at 5000 Arlington Centre Blvd.
This is the season of Pentecost! It will reach all the way to Advent! Let us live and love and laugh in the Spirit!
I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
Your Pastor,
Wayne
YOUTH AND EDUCATION
YOUTH SOFTBALL SCHEDULE CHANGES
We were unable to play our double-header so the games were rescheduled. This Sunday at 4 p.m., we play Scioto Ridge UMC. We do not play on July 15th, and will resume play on July 22nd vs Meadow Park Church of God at 6 p.m. All games are played at Thompson Park behind the Lane Road Library. Come out and cheer for the youth!
YOUTH MISSION TRIP COMISSIONING SERVICE
Thanks to all of you who have contributed and have helped to raise funds for our trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Now we need your prayers! The church will commission our team at this Sunday’s 10:45 a.m. Worship Service, and the whole church is invited to participate. The team consists of the following 14 members: Chaperons are Jennifer Chun, Pete DeWilde and Tracy Reed, and Youth include Walker Anderson, Stephen Chun, Katie DeWilde, Heath Flowers, Tanner Flowers, Brody Hunt, Alexis Kuehl, Hunter Kuehl, Sarah Ortman, Thomas Ortman and Nick Peck.
CEDAR POINT TRIP: TUESDAY, JULY 10th
Youth who have completed grades 5-12 are invited to participate. Friends are invited if they have attended LABC Youth Sunday School prior to the trip. Admission is $40.00 if paid in advance by Sunday, July 8th. VBS helpers get a further discount of $3.00 for each day they worked at VBS. Space is limited! Make checks payable to “LABC” by July 8th, to guarantee your spot and get the discount. Pack your meals or bring at least $25.00 for food and refreshments. Notarized consent and release forms are required. We will leave LABC at 7:00 a.m., on Tuesday morning, and return by 12:30 a.m. that night.
VBS Thanks!
Club VBS was a success, thanks to all of the dedicated workers and teachers who contributed their time and energy! The weather cooperated beautifully and we had a most enjoyable Bible Club in the park. The children were great; and six of them accepted Christ during the week. Praise the Lord! Thanks to co-directors Jan Ortman and Karen Keip for recruiting an outstanding and enthusiastic VBS leadership team! Club VBS will be conducted again on August 6th – 10th on evenings at the CNC in Hilliard for the younger children. Please contact Janet Buechner or me if you wish to serve on the team.
In His Service,
Tracy

“The Messiah” for Christmas
Brandon Hollihan—Minister of Music for Northwest United Methodist Church and husband of our pianist, Junghwa Lee—is putting together a multi-church presentation of “The Messiah” for this Christmas season.
Brandon has graciously agreed to meet with any interested persons at our church to begin practicing.
We will meet in the Crossing Community Church Sanctuary from 7 to 8:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 11th. Future practices will be scheduled throughout the fall.
This is an excellent opportunity not only to engage in an uplifting church community event, but also to fully participate in a Christmas worship experience while we are housed in our temporary facility.
If you have any questions, please contact Scott Anderson.

STOWE UPDATE
Dear LABC family,
308 people were served at the Stowe Baptist Center Soup Kitchen in June. I would like to especially thank Paul and Bonnie Althoff, Bill Coulter, and Jenifer Wilkerson who helped prepare and serve the meal. Their love and service to God’s people is most appreciated. I could not do it without your prayers, financial support, and willingness to cook, and to go and serve as needed. With the increase in the number of people we are serving, there is a need for more people to help. A sign-up sheet has been placed outside the OFH, for those who would like to signup to help. Three people in addition to me are needed to travel to Stowe on the third Tuesday of every month. We cook on the third Monday of every month, and then serve on Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. I’d love to have you participate any way you can. This ministry is greatly needed. I appreciate all of your efforts so much. Your sister-in-Christ, Kathy Leach
